On Friday, July 31, 2009, thirteen members and guests enjoyed celebrating the 100th Birthday of the Family & Consumer Sciences profession. Our annual meeting, a luncheon and time for visiting took place at Schuler’s Restaurant in Marshall, Michigan. Schuler’s was chosen because they are also celebrating their 100th Birthday this year. Four generations of the Schuler family have served guests over the last 100 years. Their current facility is 97 years old and has housed a hotel, a bowling alley, and a pub as well as the restaurant.
Members were invited to bring wedding pictures of their family members, and guests enjoyed trying to figure out which pictures belonged to which member. The Silent Auction was popular again this year with over 20 items donated. Proceeds of $150.00 were paid for the donated items and will go into our Ethel Washington Memorial Scholarship fund.
The luncheon was served at a large, square table which facilitated the annual meeting and a good discussion of the future of MAFCS. Dessert was a birthday cake decorated with the AAFCS 100th Anniversary seal.
